Roulette Myths Explained: Historical Spins Matter
The game of roulette is surrounded by myths which many people believe in contrary to all known evidence and the mathematical rules that govern the game. Knowing that these myths exist and that they are myths and have no truth is a major part of the battle in enjoying the game for the excitement that it brings.
Some roulette players believe that the wheel and the ball have a memory and that future results depend on previous results. This is quite clearly wrong! When you play roulette don’t fall into the trap that because the ball has landed on red five times in a row it is more likely to land on black. In an infinite spin game a true roulette wheel will land equally on the same colour but in a game of 10 or even 100 spins this is not the case. The probability of any one spin is exactly the same as any other spin regardless of the result of the spin before.
As casino roulette players do not have the ability to play for an infinite number of spins and even if they did the Zero or double Zero in American roulette ruins any idea that backing one or the other will reap a positive result.
The Martingale system of betting on roulette where you play red or black and double your bet after a loss can work in the short term but on tables with maximum limits this approach is also flawed as you may reach your maximum bet and then not recover your losses. In theory the approach is sound but in practical terms it is not.
