Roulette Betting Systems – The D’Alembert System

The D’Alembert system, also known as upwards and downwards is a form of pyramid system. It is named after the mathematician that first put forward the idea that this system of betting could beat the odds and increases the chances of winning. It is a simple system that is designed for gamblers that want to minimise their losses.

You start with have a bet as a unit, for example you may bet $10. This $10 is 10 units. If you then lose the bet then you would increase your stake by one unit so in this case you would increase your bet to $11. If you win a bet then you would reduce your stake by 1 unit, so if you had bet $11 and won then your next bet would be $10. Unfortunately there really is no great mathematical logic to this method of choosing your wager. The whole principle is based on a myth that a gambler is more likely to lose after he has won.

This simply is not the case as with every spin in roulette the odds of winning are exactly the same. It doesn’t matter if you won on the previous spin or not! Like most roulette systems it really is more of a way of minimising your loses. This system will mean that you have a better chance of making your money last. It most certainly does not, however, guarantee a big win!
