Pair

Any two playing cards that have identical rank.

Pass

Not betting, to fold.

Pass line bet

In a Craps game, a wager made before the Come Out Roll at that point repeats.

Pat

In draw poker, a hand that does not need any more hands. In blackjack, an unbusted hand worth at least 17 points.

Pay cycle

A mathematical expression that states the number of plays required for the machine to cycle through all possible winning and nonwinning possibilities.

Payline

The line on a slot machine window on which the symbols from each reel need to line up.

Payoff

Your winnings off a wager placed.

Payout percentage

Also referred to as the payback percentage, the percent of each dollar placed in a gaming machine that the machine itself is programmed to return to the player.

Payout table

A posting at a gaming machine or roulette table, that shows the player what each winning hand will pay for the amount of coins or credits played.

Pit

A casino area where a group of table games are positioned, and where the center area is restricted to casino personnel.

Pit boss

The person who directs and supervises all the games and casino personnel. They watch for cheating, settle complaints, and give comps.

Pot

In a poker game, the quantity of money that accumulates in the middle of the table as each player plays. This money goes to the winner of the hand.

Pressing

A player presses the bet when they wager their winnings along with the original bet.

Probability

A branch of mathematics that measures the likelihood that an event will occur during a game session.

Progressive

A slot machine whose jackpot increases with each coin played. When the progressive jackpot hits, the amount resets to the starting number.

Push

A tie hand between a dealer and a player; no money changes hands. Wagers are returned to the player
