Famous Roulette Bets – Derren Brown “the Events”

Derren Brown is a well-known British hypnotist and magician who has achieved much notoriety for his controversial stunts in his television series ‘the events’. In the event entitled ‘how to take down a casino’ Brown attempted to beat the system and through supposedly using super fast mathematical calculations as to the speed and trajectory of the ball, he was going to place a bet on the winning number. Unfortunately despite his confidence the result was not correct. Brown placed the bet on the number 8 but the ball fell on the number 30. What was impressive however was that number 8 is the slot next to number 30!

As a side story to this trick, Derren Brown actually got the money for the bet by hypnotising a member of the public into giving him five thousand pounds! After the trick failed he told the member of the public to wait until the end of the show and he would return the money. The forgiving man did wait and instead of the five thousand being returned he was presented with a cheque for one hundred and eighty five thousand pounds – the amount that he would have won if Derren had been correct in his bet!
